John Carter is president and chief executive officer for Carter Brothers, LLC. As CEO, John leads one of the nation’s top electronic security, fire and life safety firms specializing in closed circuit television, access control, intrusion detection, and fire and life safety systems. The award-winning company serves clients throughout the country and has relationships with many of the nation’s blue chip corporations such as Wachovia, Tyco, General Electric, Frito Lay, Standard Register, BP Oil and Grainger.

An accomplished corporate growth strategist and salesman, John’s vision and expertise in business performance have driven Carter Brothers’ recognition as one of the fastest growing companies in the fire and security industries. His responsibilities include execution of the corporate vision, strategic growth initiatives, customer satisfaction, and the day-to-day operations of the company.

Founded in 2001, by John Carter and his brother, former NFL wider receiver, Cris Carter, Carter Brothers has received notable recognition in its first eight years of business. In 2007, Carter Brothers received the inaugural “Entrepreneurship of the Year” award from the National Urban League and was named Regional Supplier of the Year by The National Minority Supplier Development Council. In 2006, Carter Brothers was recognized for the second year by DiversityBusiness.com and named to their award listings for diverse-owned businesses including: “Top Diverse Businesses,” “Small Businesses in the USA,” and “Top African American Owned Businesses in the USA”. Also in 2006, Carter Brothers was featured in Fortune’s magazine’s “Top 500” list and Black Enterprise magazine’s “Top 100 issue”.

John’s leadership has had significant impact on profitability and growth for Carter Brothers. Since its inception, annual revenue has increased from $650,000 in 2001 to revenues of $81million for 2008. In 2007, another company milestone was reached when Carter Brothers acquired fire and life safety leader Edwards Service from GE Security, adding an additional presence in ten states. In 2008, Carter Brothers further expanded its national footprint and capabilities by establishing a strategic alliance with Johnson Controls

From 1994 to 2001, John previously served as vice president of Barton Malow Company, Design/Construction Services. During his time at Barton Malow, John focused on strategic planning, business development, day-to-day operations, and project delivery. His unprecedented appointment to vice president at Barton Malow included his guidance in leading the construction giant in the acquisition of over $5 billion worth of construction projects. A few of the projects included the Olympic Stadium/Turner Field, Phillips Stadium, Enron Field, and Paul Brown Stadium. Additionally John established strategic relationships with key clients such as the Detroit Lions, Cincinnati Bengals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Bears, and the New England Patriots.

John attended West Liberty State College where he studied business management, and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Education Program at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Business.

He is a member of the board of directors for the YMCA, a founding member of Carter Brothers Charities, a member of the board of directors of the National Minority Supplier Development Council, previous member of the Hampton University Sports Advisory Board, and the Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Business Alumni Board.

John is active in the community and supports the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Hosea Feed the Hungry, and the National Urban League.
